The railways of the EU and other countries have supported Ukraine: free travel and humanitarian aid are provided.
The European Railways and Infrastructure Association (CER) supported Ukrzaliznytsia JSC and expressed its solidarity with the Ukrainian people. This is stated in the official letter of the community to Ukrzaliznytsia.
Currently, all CER railways are actively involved in the EU's humanitarian efforts to support Ukrainians forced to leave Ukraine and deliver humanitarian aid to Ukraine. All CER members and partners also agree to comply with all sanctions against the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus.
Neighboring railway companies in Poland, Moldova, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic organize humanitarian trains to transport Ukrainians traveling abroad and help return humanitarian goods in the opposite direction. For example, humanitarian trains are currently running between the Polish-Ukrainian border stations Medica - Mostyska, Hrubieszów - Izov and Dorohusk - Jagodyn. Austria, the Czech Republic and Germany provide free travel between countries for Ukrainian citizens. Luxembourg, Denmark, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Belgium, France, and Finland grant Ukrainians free travel on their trains. Other EU countries are also joining Ukrzaliznytsia and Ukraine.
"With these actions, the railways demonstrate their solidarity with colleagues from the Ukrainian Railways and the Ukrainian people. These initiatives will continue to develop and expand in the coming days. In addition, CER members and partners fully apply all sanctions imposed by their national governments and the EU, ”the community said in a letter.
It will be recalled that Russian railways, Belarusian railways and their subsidiaries have been excluded from the International Union of Railways (UIC). Ukrzaliznytsia insists that the railways of hostile countries be excluded from all international organizations and the transportation of goods and passengers stopped with them. This initiative of the Ukrainian company has already been supported by the Alliance of New Participants in Passenger Transport in Brussels ALLRAIL.
