What are the rules of entering Poland?

If you or your relatives are in immediate danger of a threat to life or health in connection with the ongoing armed conflict in Ukraine and the use of violence against the civilian population and you decide to leave the territory of Ukraine, you can go to any border crossing with Poland and declare it to the officers of the Guard Graniczna - willingness to submit an application for international protection in Poland. Remember to describe your situation in detail and present all relevant documents and photos.

According to the information provided by the Office for Foreigners , as a citizen of Ukraine, you can enter Poland on the basis of:

  • visa-free travel on the basis of a biometric passport;
  • national visa (D) or Schengen visa (C);
  • a visa with a D or C designation, or a residence permit issued by another Schengen state;
  • hold a temporary residence permit, permanent residence or long-term resident's EU residence permit and a valid residence card;

If you do not have any of the above (biometric passport, visa, permit), you can enter on the basis of:

  • an application for granting international protection, submitted at the Polish border crossing point;
  • consent of the commanding officer of the Border Guard, given when crossing the border.

If after coming to Poland you want to use the help offered by the Polish government, go to one of the reception points. At these points, you will receive a meal, an opportunity to rest and the necessary information. The list of reception points can be found HERE .

Border crossings can also be crossed on foot.

Decisions related to the transported movable property (e.g. a car) are taken by the National Revenue Administration when crossing the border.

Poland has no influence on the border procedures applicable when crossing the Ukrainian border.
